Question setup internet connection 9.04 ubuntu

have installed ubuntu 9.04 desktop edition within "install within windows" option and its is running fine.
    system info:
windows 7, 1 GB Ram, i3 processor Internet provider:
MTNL Broadband connection, through telephone line.
    1. I am getting this error when scanning for interface command : sudo pppoeconf
    sorry , I scanned 1 interface, but the access\
concentrator of your provider did not respond. Please
check your network and moderm cabls. Another reason
for the scan failure may also be another running ppoe process
    which controls the modem.
    2. I followed this but didn't help https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ADSLPPPoE
    3. I dont have any ethernet info called ''eth0'' except this in my system it is showing ''pan0''
    4. there is no tab called ''Network'' under system
    5. and also there is no internet connection icon (two monitor icon). Let me know if you need any more info.

please help me to setup the internet connection.

Re: setup internet connection 9.04 ubuntu

Ubuntu 9.04? Really? That's not supported anymore, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_...stem)#Releases

So probably best to get Ubuntu 12.10

BTW: pan0 is Personal Area Networking. Probably something with bluetooth.
