There are so many Linux distros, that creating and maintaining applications, even only for main-stream ones, is a freaking nightmare. Imagine, having to constantly test across different kernel, compiler, libraries, xserver, toolkit, package, etc versions, just to cater to a really small fraction of users.
Linux users like to complain about the lack of third party verndors' support, but that's not going to improve, uless distros start collaborating.
Sad... but true. Even though Linux offers so many choices, this is also I guess a weakness from the perspective of a company that develops software...
