Lightbulb Ubuntu Server Projects for Beginners

    hello there,
I've just installed Ubuntu Server 12.04.1 LTS 64bit as a VM on my MacBook Pro through Parallels Desktop.
I am familiar and know well the syntax of Linux and Servers, but I'm looking for projects and things to configure and create on an Ubuntu Server, in order to get to know the stuff better and become more professional - like various server configurations for different targets or other cool stuff you can do with an Ubuntu Server, and how to do them.

As I don't have any ideas, I hope that you'll be able to help me to get around the world of Ubuntu Servers.

You can try things like fileserving (SAMBA and NFS), Web servers such as Apache2 and Nginx. There are countless services you can try, perhaps you may want to add your area of interest.

Database servers such as MySql, Postgres are popular services.

Also this has been discussed many times, here ar a couple links.
Nothing is ever easy, but if it is difficult you must be doing it wrong.

Here's a short list of server and network projects that uou can use as exercise material

Most of them were done on Debian, but should translate rather effortlessly to Ubuntu.
It's also rather old, things have gotten easier since then.
