I need recommendations for a good dell laptop with a pcmcia slot, 4 gigs of ram, 320 gig hard drive, and an intel processor. For about 400$

Dells can be a little cheap as far as the construction goes in my opinion. Personally I would go for an HP. I bought a dell earlier this year and ended up returning it for the HP pavilion g6 I'm using right now. Its got 8GB of ram, 500GB HD, AMD A6 quad core processor. It cost me $450 and worked with Ubuntu right off the bat.

A few years ago, I paid $250 for a used T43p thinkpad with 80 gb drive, 2 GB of RAM. Upgraded the disk to 320 GB. I believe the RAM is at max. Has two pcmcia slots. I've been running Jaunty on it since and it's been flawless.

You can pour a cup of coffee on the keyboard and it will drain out holes in the bottom. Try that with a Dell or HP. On second thought, don't.
