Using TV as secondary monitor

Hello! I have a Compaq Presario SR5605F and I would like to hook it up to my TV. The only video output the computer has is VGA. My TV has svideo and RCA inputs. My question: I know that some computers can just use a cable like this, but others will need some sort of converter box. How do I find out what I will need to buy?

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 if that makes any difference.
