12.10 suddenly can't find my wifi?

So, I have a dlink 655 whose network is suddenly not showing up in ubuntu? I have just returned from a week of travelling (during which I used plenty of wifi on ubuntu), and on returning home, both win 7 (same computer) and phone can see the network just fine, and ubuntu can see 5 other networks, but my own is gone? I have of course tried restarting the router, to no avail. Right now I'm on one of the other networks, which works fine (but is of course pretty unsatisfactory).

I'm guessing some driver update in the past week (like a good boy I of course install all suggested updates) has messed something up? Any ideas for what to do?

Btw., I tried reinstalling the generic headers through

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic
sudo apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source

since that solved the problems when my wireless card didn't work at all. However, that gave me:

and that had no effect, neither after reinstalling. I must admit I don't know wat the last errors mean, but it seems I didn't break anything at least.

Anyone has any ideas for how to find my wifi again?

Type this in the terminal and post the output. It will give us info on your wireless card

 lshw -C network

and also this

 sudo iwlist scan

this scans all your wireless networks in rage. ESSID tells you the actual name of the connection. See if yours pops up

Your card looks good to me. Weird,so you are saying that AT THIS MOMENT,windows and your phone (from what I saw in the first post) can see your own wireless network just fine,and ubuntu can't? This doesn't look like it's driver related or anything...

indeed. Just switched back to win7, and behold: it's right here waiting for me.
can this be something about channels or something that my ubuntu driver is studdenly not looking for?

I had a similar problem. After reinstalled wifi driver and tried many other stuffs, I still could not solve this problem. Then I checked the wireless configuration on my wifi router, I found out that the region option has an impact on the channel counts. for example, there is up to 13 channels for ASIA region. that's what I choosed for my wireless network. And I set the channel to AUTO mode, i.e. the router will pick any channel automatically. in my case, the channel was 13. Unfortunately, I set the region to US in my laptop equipped with Ubuntu 12.10 system. Channel 13 is beyond its maximum channel number of 11.

the solution is simple and straightforward:

I just changed the region to US in my router, then I could find my wireless network without any problem.
