I give up cannot get steam to work smoothly through wine it slows the omputer down (2500k Sandy Bridge processor, Intel HD graphics, Zotac z68 itx mobo

I don't use steam but judging by the amount of info on the wine appdb, it can be tricky to get running.

That said Valve is working on bringing a native steam client to linux, and has a limited beta test in progress.
