ubuntu 11.0 terminal and administration help

He folks. Long time no needy helpy but I ran across a problem today with a desktop I picked up.
ubuntu 11.0 is installed on it, but I do not have a password to the administration. Only as "guest" .
I can't run updates from terminal, can't install software, etc.
Any way err maybe I should say "best" way around this?
I would even consider formatting and re-install if my little mind could figure that out.

11.xx has reached EOL. Why not just do a fresh install?

Second that. You're going to need admin access eventually. Might as well start with a nice clean new OS.

Start fresh with something that's still supported.

You're better off downloading and burning a fresh copy of Ubuntu then trying to reset passwords(on a dead release).
Once you get that out of the way, then just choose the wipe and install over whole drive.(I think that's the option)
Need more help on this let us know.
