HP compaq 6720s now suspend on close lid

It has been two years since I posted for a problem with suspension for my hp compaq 6720s laptop: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1592875

Since then, the laptop was not capable of suspending on close lid, no matter what ubuntu release I used, It suspended ok when I order it from menu or from command line but no on closing lid.

Two days ago, I think since I received security updates to have
kernel 3.2.0-33-generic #52-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 18 16:19:45 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux in my precise pangolin system, laptop does suspend when I close the lid.

Could someone point what can be changed? or why now the suspension on close lid works?.

I have look for bugs reported about suspension and I don't see any comment about fixing this problem.

    Thanks in advance

    Bump....

    I can add more information.

Only after being the laptop suspended from menu in desktop (I am using gnome fallback) , it is posible to have the suspension on close lid.

If I try the laptop to suspend first time in session on close lid, it doesn't suspend. First I have to suspend it with menu, then awake it, and then suspension on close lid works.

Weird... Could someone clarify or explain this behaviour?.
