Windows being moved to other Workspaces

In Ubuntu 12.04 LTS my windows are being moved automatically to neighbouring workspaces without my consent. In addition to that sometimes a window occupies space in two workspaces at the same time. How can I overcome this problem? I do not want to switch workspaces all the time.
