black hover boxes w 12.04 upgrade

Hi.....I just upgraded to 12.04.
The only thing I'm seeing that I don't know how to fix is the black hover boxes..........when I hover the mouse over something and a box appears, normally w info re what one is hovering over.........all I get is a black box.
Any suggestioons appreciated.

edit: In a GUEST acct session I have good legible Mouseover Boxes.........gotta suspect the problem is something I changed in my settings for my acct, but I don't see how to correct the problem.

edit: In Settings/Appearance/Theme..........the problem is only in the the Ambiance and Radiance themes, the mouseover boxes are good in the 2 High Contrast Themes.
Would prefer to use the Ambiance or Radiance theme........still looking for a fix.
