system tools > disks > create disk image

Where can I find a detailed explanation of the "disk image" function found in ubuntu 12.04 Applications > System Tools > Preferences > Disks > Create Disk Image and click the gear symbol at the top right?

    No.

This appears to be a way to backup your hard drive by "cloning", either as a file that can be expanded and restored to your hard drive, or as a full exact copy. Similar to Windows 7 or Ghost.

But I can't find any info on it...

In my experience, .img files are generally created by just using DD to clone a drive or folder.

On a related topic, I totally didn't know this feature was here, this is AWESOME. Just reduces the need for me to boot Clonezilla just to make backups.

I haven't tried it, so I don't know what it actually does.

I want info on it first. I can't find any.

This looks good, but I don't see anything about backup or cloning.

I'm running the Gnome panel on Ubuntu here, so I thought maybe this might have some info...

If anyone actually uses this clone feature, please let us know...
