Why won't 12.10 let me customise Firefox?

    Hello

I originally thought this was a Java-related problem, which is why I posted this thread here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2082050

However, things now seem even stranger.

When I try to customise my search engines in Firefox I can't.

If I try via Mycroft Project, I get told I need to enable javascript even though I am enabling it (hence why I thought there was a Java-related problem afoot).

Then, if I try to add anything other than a 'featured' search engine here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...rt=name&page=2, nothing happens. There is no response. Nothing. Featured ones work fine. The others do not.

This is really annoying and is not a problem when I use Windows and certainly never was when I used to use 10.04, which I have just updated from on account of it no longer being supported.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how to overcome this bloody annoying and baffling problem?

    Please.

    It's driving me mad.

Btw, it's a clean install of 12.10, I have no other add-ons running at the moment and Java is installed and recognised as such by Firefox.

    Big thanks in advance.

The fact I can't set StartPage as a search engine coupled with this http://ostatic.com/blog/the-electron...0s-dash-search has p*ssed me right off. I can't belive I'm saying this but I'm going back to Windows. At least it works and you can customise it.

    Well annoyed.

I used to like Ubuntu. 12.10 is dog toilet.

I could just narrow this problem down to the addon "Unity Desktop Integration 2.4.4".
Once I deactivated it adding search engines is no longer a problem.
Just reported a bug as well: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...n/+bug/1149231
