Excellent tutorial. GLC can be a little daunting, and I find that I have all sorts of issues with it, particularly if my recording is long. I found this "cast.sh" file on a YouTube tutorial some time back, and it's what I use to record my gaming now. It uses FFMPEG, and records the game as well as the audio automatically, and the video size is not too large (though quality is good).
Essentially you open a terminal and type "sh cast.sh" to run it, and then you open the game you want to record. It runs in the background, and when you want to stop the recording, you do a "Ctrl-c" in the terminal window to stop it. It places the file in your HOME/capture folder (you actually have to make the capture folder first or it gives you an error).

Or make your own file and use the code below and make it executable afterwards (open a terminal and type "chmod +x cast.sh"). I did not create this code, but I left the authors name in the comments.

If you find that it gives an mp3 error, you may need to apt-get the ffmpeg with MP3 support. This file has been excellent, and I recently recorded a 2hr+ psychonauts session with no slowdown or hiccups!
