I have an elderly machine that is way too slow to run 12.04, but it runs 10.04 perfectly.

My wife has started selling on ebay as a hobby, and she asked me if I could set up a machine just for this purpose.
Since all it really needs to do is connect to the internet and a digital camera, this machine should do the job just fine.
I have it all set up, but there is one problem; the computer is nowhere near my router, so I need to use a wifi dongle. I have a dongle, but unfortunately 10.04 doesn't recongnize it.
I tried a 12.04 live CD and, while it was unusably slow, it did recognize the wifi dongle.

My qusetion is, since we know the dongle works with 12.04 but the machine is too slow to run it, could I get it to work by installing 10.04 and then updating the kernel to the lastest version?
