Re: Wifi Problem with Dell Inspiron Laptop

After following all of your directions I put in the following command.

    sudo dpkg -i wireless*.deb

    I got the following.

    bigjoey@bigjoey-Inspiron-5720:~$ cd Downloads
    bigjoey@bigjoey-Inspiron-5720:~/Downloads$ sudo dpkg -i wireless*.deb
    [sudo] password for bigjoey:
    dpkg: error processing wireless*.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    wireless*.deb

Is it possible that this file isn't right for my computer? Should I look into getting the file the other guy suggested. I'll wait for your response before I do anything. I cannot thank you enough.

Re: Wifi Problem with Dell Inspiron Laptop

I typed in the command, got ride of all the files and then followed your directions to the letter. This time during the install I didn't get an error message. After rebooting my computer, it the wifi still doesn't work. There's a little light at the bottom that comes on when it's picking up the signal.

I tried rfkill list and every block is disabled. So that's not the problem.

I read somewhere that Dell laptops can be annoying because you have to do something to the internal wireless card before loading Unbuntu. I'm not really sure.

    We'd like to see:
    Code:
    cat /var/lib/dkms/wireless-bcm43142-oneiric-dkms/6.20.55.19~bdcom0602.0400.1000.0400/build/make.log
    It probably has some clues.
