I'm running Ubuntu 12.04, and have a problem with the audio and video (if it exists) "skipping". It generally involves playing the same 2 sec clip 3 times quickly. It affects nearly everything :

  • mp3 players (Banshee, Rhythmbox)
  • Video - SMPlayer, vlc
  • Web-based audio - Grooveshark, Pandora
  • Web-based video - youtube, any flash-based video

It seems to be due to cpu utilization. Oddly, when I watch videos via XBMC, I never have the issue. I do however, see the issue when streaming video within XMBC.

I'm not sure how to go about debugging, or tracking down the issue. It occurs often enough to be annoying (twice per 10 minutes).

Any ideas on how to track down the issue or mitigate it are greatly appreciated.
