Screen Artefacts When Using OpenGL Compositing

When I set System Settings -> Desktop Effects -> Advanced -> Compositing type: to OpenGL, I get weird screen artefacts (see attached images). It doesn't happen when I set it to XRender (but then, no desktop effects). It's not a huge issue, as it doesn't usually block the view of everything. I'm currently running Kubuntu Quantal. It happened on 12.04 also, but I had the Kubuntu backports PPA enabled, so I was running the same version of KDE (4.9.2). It appears to be a Kubuntu specific issue. I can't seem to reproduce it on openSUSE.

In attachment 1, you the lines in the panel at the top of the screen. The second attachment is a screenshot of a window with a white border around it.

EDIT: I should probably tell you what graphics card I have (duh). It's an Intel HD Graphics 4000.
