12.10 Nvidia drivers - lost unity and window decor

Hi as the title suggests when I try and install the nvidia drivers I lost unity and things like window borders.

I've googled the problem and seems this is a common problem. None of the suggestions I have seen have solved my problem though.

    Any one have any ideas?

I just want to add some more info on this which may give you guys a clue!

I am using an Nvidia GT 330M. When I was running windows on this laptop I had to install 2 drivers. It has on board intel graphics also and when the charger is unplugged it will switch to the intel graphics. When I unplug my charger my laptop actually crashes. I believe the intel graphics is currently being used so not sure why it would crash. If anyone can shed any light with this new information I would be very grateful.

one last thing!.. under software sources > additional drivers, there are no nvidia propriety drivers mentioned at all.

Just tried to install the nvidia driver from Nvidia direct and heres what I get:

leecasey; Hi ! Welcome to the forum.

Switchable graphics I am presently aware presents the ubuntu kernel and the /etc/X11/xorg.conf with a situation.
There are work-arounds ..but I have not had direct experience.
See these links for background and possible solutions:

also suggest searching the Nvidia web site for current info irt linux.
