How are you connecting to the internet? Are you connecting through someone else's network (School? Work?) that might be preventing access to some sites?

What common sites are you able to open?

Have you checked with your ISP to see if you're having DNS trouble? What browser are you using?

Facebook has been blocked in some countries lately. I don't know if this applies though.

Since you're using your own broadband connection, you can do some basic tests to see where the blockage is coming from. Perhaps you should try connecting to these unavailable websites through a proxy. A proxy server will be able to override many user-end issues such as firewalls and network restrictions. It will help determine what the actual issue might be. This deals directly with what Paqman earlier mentioned.

For example, in Firefox, visit a free proxy server such as http://www.sitegetter.net/ . It will provide you with an address bar. Put in the address to Facebook, press "Go!" and tell us the results. Try this with several different pages that you're having difficulties with.
