After a recent update I've been having sound distortion issues streaming audio files in my browser, or playing them in Amarok. However, if I play the same file in VLC the distortion goes away.

It is hard to describe the distorted sound, it is as if another layer has been added to the audio. In the foreground you can hear the undistorted sound but over-layed in the background is slightly delayed distortion that follows the sound track.

It is like the sound of distorted audio when you have poor satellite signal on TV. It's the sort of sound effect people use in movies when they are trying to simulate poor connection between two spaceships. Basically the point I'm making is somehow there are now aliens in my PC and its pretty junk.

I'm using the latest stable kde release off the kde ppa.

Any help exterminating the infestation would be greatly appreciated.
