I agree that something is borked there

Is it a fresh install ? or have you made some tweaks and experiments ?

By the way, i propose you open synaptic (sudo apt-get install synaptic), search for:

    - ubuntu-desktop : uninstall it for now
    - compiz : uninstall ALL the related packages (*compiz*)
    - unity : uninstall them all also

    next step:
    - install unity (which is by default the 3D)
    - or install unity-2d

Thats it, now logout/in again, and watch the difference (if any)
If the system is loading less gnome-session than previously, and are satisfied, then reinstall ubuntu-desktop.

Yes, you seem to have too many of these:
    Code:
    /usr/bin/gnome-session --session=ubuntu-2d
Not sure why. It looks like you've been customizing suff quite a bit. What have you installed exactly?

Basically I installed ubuntu tweak and compiz to change the property of the side launcher and font size. I did the same on my laptop and I didn't have any of these problem. I will try to re-install what you suggested.

you can use ubuntu-tweak but with care (to me it feels like too dangerous for non techies)

    Ok,

Since that it seems that unity2d was loading without any purpose, I removed it (I was using unity). Finally, it is not loading anymore since that I removed it .

However I don't know what was the real problem under that.

So we can said that the problem is solved. Thanks to everybody.

    Best,
