China? - failing to download google-earth

I do not really know where to aske and what the cause is but here the background information.

Am on 12.10 with all updates. Missing Google-Earth and try to download htt://dl.google.com/dl/earth/client/current/google-earth-stable_current_i386.deb .

Both in the terminal - wget ..... - nor in Firefox - nor by adding the repository in Synaptics can I reach the server. In Firefox I noted that the "http://" gets striped off the URL (also with https.

The only other information I can give is that I am in Beijing and Google is notoriously slow here. Anybody knows of an alternative download side (mirror)?

Well, you know how suff is in China, thing aren't exactly open because of restriction, and Google has shown some claws in the recent years. Getting you the installation package shouldn't be too difficult, but once installed, GE will still need to pull data from Google servers, which are probably blocked.
In short, there's isn't much we can do about it.

Welcome to Beijing. I downloaded the file for you and shared it with following url
    http://ubuntuone.com/4fphATEmrqtb4Yk1Lcr74p

By the way Google works very hard here, maybe harder than they do anywhere else. You know google gae project ? It's said gae is developed for users in China to visit google.com.

    Enjoy your days in Beijing!
