ndiswrapper hangs system on $modprobe ndiswrapper

Attempting to install BCMWL5 drivers for a Linksys WMP300N NIC.

I go through the steps to install ndiswrapper and get it to work.

Everything goes smoothly until I try to execute $sudo modprobe ndiswrapper.

Then the terminal hangs and I have to Ctrl-C.

I've tried everything else and ndiswrapper is my last hope for using Ubuntu without having to go out and buy a new wireless card.

Can anyone assist with this? I couldn't find an answer in the troubleshooting thread.
