I have a Sony Vaio Z13 with Ubuntu 12.4 installed; I have the basic model with intel graphics only.

Most things work out of the box (quite unexpectedly). However, one problem persists. The video playback quality is not as good as one would expect. When I watch media files with fast movements the vertical lines appear broken. The same happens when I move windows fast across the screen. The motion is not smooth at all but there is some flickering.

I wonder whether somebody else has encountered the same problem and perhaps found a solution. I tried to tinker with xrandr and fine-tune the screen modes, but that did not get me anywhere.

Thank you in advance.
