    Exclamation 12.10 is broken and cant boot

    i did the normal upgrade with update manager but after the reboot it hangs. i see the message something like starting ttymanager and then it switches to a black screen with mouse and back to the message with starting ttymanager. i tried with crtl+alt+f1 and saw shortly a login prompt but it switched immediately again to black screen and back to the message starting ttymanager. that switching dosnt stop. i have no idea how i get a shell

    then i tried the livecd... i did check it and all ok no error. after boot it looks like it wants to open some windows but then the screen wents black. not possible to get a shell too.

    so the system dosnt boot anymore and the live cd dosnt too.

    any ideas?

    so is a segfault but dont know what todo now

    i tried with another distro live cd to chroot

    apt-get update gives me only

    Is the internet working in live mode? Can you ping archive.ubuntu.com?

    That looks like there is no internet or dns.

    Are you sure ATI Rage is supported at all in 12.10? It's very old. Did you try a live cd of 12.10 to see if it will load correctly?

    i can not ping it from chroot but i can browse it with the browser

    it should be supported... no message anywhere which said they removed support... and the drivers are there

    livecd dosnt work and for unknown reasons f6 to disable nomodeset dosnt work
