12.04 -Can't connect to wired network

I have just updated and I can no longer connect my laptop to the internet through a wired connection.

    Any ideas?

    ifconfig gives:

EDIT: Just seen a similar posting to this. I don't have wicd installed.

Re: 12.04 -Can't connect to wired network

I newly installed 12.04 and after initial working it stopped. Editing the new config by the network configuration interface doesn't work out. "ifconfig -a" still shows old data and ping doesn't work. Only thing I can do is do "sudo su -" and edit by hand. However, even then it's slower than my other computers on the network (Mac, Linux). So what's up with this ?

When you edited it, what did you do? I don't know anything about configurations so any info would be brilliant. Just being able to connect and use the internet would be enough.

Re: 12.04 -Can't connect to wired network

I finally managed to solve my problem. I opened the file /etc/network/interfaces and removed everything and replaced it with:

    Code:
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback
I then restarted networking by typing the following in the terminal:

    Code:
    sudo service networking restart
Ubuntu managed to find my wired connection and I am now back online.
