    problem with Boot Loader

    Hello friends,

I am using Win 7 and Ubuntu 13.04. Currently I tried to install CentOs 5.5.
For that I shrinked some space from some drive and created new volume.
But when I restarted my PC it couldnt boot. Message was grub rescue.
So I created super Grub disk. Now my PC can boot with that CD. But I can use
only Ubuntu. I cant boot in Win 7. So can anyone tell me how to restore
my boot sequence so that without grub CD I can use both OS ?

    Re: problem with Boot Loader

I would just boot Ubuntu from the Live CD. Once inside there:

sudo apt-get update || sudo apt-get purge grub || sudo apt-get install grub

EDIT: Try the above post first

    Re: problem with Boot Loader

What is it that you want to do first -- restore Ubuntu boot, or restore Win7 boot?

Running update-grub does nothing to restore the Win7 boot.
Ubuntu 16.10 Mate, Mint 18 Mate; MS Win 8.1, MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.

    Re: problem with Boot Loader

You need to first check where the boot loader is installed. Can you check using

    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
where the /boot is located? If you found it, say if it is in 'sda1', try this command:

    Code:
    sudo grub-install /dev/sda1
Many recommands that it is safe to run this command through live CD. Hope it works.

After this step, you can hopfully boot without live cd. If the windows does not show up, you may manually add entry for windows.
