    partial success with Toshiba S855--S5254

Can't do anormal install of 12.04 on this machine as both the ethernet and wireless controllers are not supported yet.

    Ethernet is Atheros AR8161/8165
    Wireless is Realtek 8723

Have succeeded in running 12.04 in Virtualbox on Windows 7 which comes installed on the laptop. [am typing this from there!!!!]

Haven't made an uptodate bootable iso yet, but that is the next step. May not be efficient, but this is fun so far.

    Hope this helps somebody.

There are drivers out there, but you will have to wait a while to get them included into the distributions. (

Same computer and issue... How will we know when it is fixed or when there is a fix?

Keep monitoring activity on AR8161 and Realtek 8723.

I don't expect it for a bit. The same situation exists with other Linux distributions. I found a guy who made a small bootable version of Archlinux [on the Gentoo forum] but i could not get it to boot for me. This distribution had a driver for the AR8161.

If I get it to run, I'll post back here.

    Good luck,

    Paul

Haven't had time to download 12.10 yet. There are drivers out there so that you can run 12.04 LTS. Look up my other posts on this subject, and you will find the link for the procedure I followed to get 12.04 running as the main OS on my Toshiba. Even if 12.10 works out of the box, I will stay with the LTS version.

Here's the link to that post
