Why is Firefox so slow in 12.04? Wheel mouse scrolling is excruciatingly SLOW as is plain vanilla page scrolling. Chrome is much faster. I switched to Chrome, but would like to return to Firefox. Anyone know what is going on?

Firefox is not slow on any of my machines. What are your hardware specs, what graphics card and graphics driver are you using?
System 76 Pangolin Perf 4n laptop. Ubuntu 12.04 2.9 GB memory, Intel Core 2 do CPU P8600 @ 2.4 GHz x2, 64 bit,
Nvidia driver "current version".
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M GS] (rev a1)
fyi - Chrome is plenty fast. Firefox lags badly, almost unusable.
Thanks.
My guess is that you may need to do a bit of "cleaning-up". Run Firefox in safe mode. Use a new profile. My personal experience is that Firefox and other browsers are just getting better with each release.

It was a fresh install of 12.04 and literally the first time i used Firefox it was glacial.
I am having the same problem I am about to switch over to chromium. I suspect it could be Java, flash or the Ubuntu add-ons. Perhaps a combination of all 3. It's unusable like this, I'll post a solution if I find one.

After running the Update Manager a couple of times, the problem for me has gone away. I have no idea what made the difference. Knock on wood...
