Running 64-bit Ubuntu on my Dell Inspiron 1545. Actually 12.04 had initially solved all my multi-monitor problems... everything was working wonderfully until some time in the last couple weeks.

But now, since some update or other, I have the following problem:

If I have an external monitor plugged in, close the laptop lid, and move the mouse, I find myself using only the external display -- which is what I want. But if I then tell the laptop to hibernate, when I tell the laptop to resume nothing good happens. Usually it is just a blank screen. I can use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to switch to a virtual terminal, then Ctrl-Alt-F7 to switch to the X display, and then I see the lock screen... but when I type my password, the windows on my desktop are all undecorated, and there is no Unity.

I can switch back to VT1 and log in and try to run unity, but it doesn't work. I wind up needing to reboot.

Anyone else have this problem, and is there a workaround?
