Help with my build

I've been running Ubuntu on an old HP xw4300 Workstation and while it's been great through the years, I feel that its time for an upgrade. I find that through my daily use of this computer I am constantly running into problems due to its lack of performance, so I have decided to build a higher end machine. One that if I feel like watching a 1080P video or all that way to playing a game on maxed out settings, it will run fine. I considered buying the Leopard Extreme from System76, however I found that I can build a better system more tailored to me for cheaper along with the additional feeling you get from building it yourself. I compiled a list of parts I chose to make this computer great but I am not sure how compatible they will all be on Ubuntu. So I would like to know if anyone has any feedback? Possible alternatives to better hardware? Anything would be interesting to hear.

RAM is pretty cheap these days, perhaps 16gig would be a better option than 4gig?

When it comes to ram and because ram is so cheap these days there is no reason not to max out your ram, also I would have gone with a lga 2011 motherboard as ivy bridge e will be supported but it is a bit more costly.

32GB seems to be the max for your board and I'd recommend this kit.

It looks pretty good to me, but I can't help wondering if moving down to an i5-3570k and moving up to a GTX 660 might ultimately give you a better balanced system with more gaming potential.

Sorry, but that sounds like a terrible purchase to me. It's not going to make the system faster now or even in the near future unless the user does something special that requires lots of RAM (VM's, huge images in GIMP, etc.). I'm skeptical about buying massive amounts of RAM like (especially uberexpensive "gaming/performance" RAM with huge fins on the heatspreaders that clutter the CPU socket area). RAM can be added cheaply later on. 4GB modules might be a better choice and (2x4) 8GB would probably what I'd recommend here since moving from 4GB to 8GB is not a huge price jump.
