Quick question regarding compatibility / should i use linux?

Hey guys, just thought id throw a few questions here before i took the leap into Linux.

I was mainly wondering if you thought that Linux was suitable for someone like me.

So heres what i do on my current system:

    1. Play Games at a high end ( trying to go pro this Leauge of legends season ) - e.g minecraft, leauge of legends, wow and sc2
    2. Video Edit
    3. Photo edit ( occasionly, not a big deal )
    4. Do uni work ( studying international politics )
    5. Use VOIP solutions

And why i am looking to change to a new OS:

    1. Windows xp is becoming outdated
    2. The cap on ram sucks on XP ( i have 3.5gb unused atm )
    3. Programs are starting to drop XP support ( see hamachi )

    PC Spec ( dxdiag ) - http://pastebin.com/DM1Uvtau

So yeah, do you guys think linux would be worthwhile for me, and if so, which version ( I passed A level computing so i am not a total Dumpty around code etc )

sorry for the long post and incoherence.

    Jake

Minecraft is JAVA so runs like a breeze on linux, there are quite a few tutarials around for running your own minecraft (tekkit) server on linux. The others I wouldn't know, but in general if they were designed for windows, you should run them on windows.

The rest: no problem at all.
    I'm thinking about it

Or, you can play non-DRM'd games.

I suggest you try it from a live USB and see if you like what you can do/see/use. If you don't, then there's not a lot of point continuing. Linux does tend to require a little help from the user every so often.

And kudos to the A-level computing, I'm halfway through AS at the moment.

Do not run these on Linux: wow and sc2

Blizzard are known to ban Linux players who uses wine.

    4. do uni work
I presume this means University classwork, right?

Then BEFORE you make the switch, try to find out what the school requires in terms of tools and file formats for classwork. All too many use MS Office and other MS Window tools -- which do not work well under Wine.
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.
