12.04 thinks my display is a laptop

I open the display properties window and the only one showing up is labeled as "Laptop". I have 2 displays plugged in, on a Nvidia Geforce 6800 XT video card. I've had both screens working on this same card before.

    Any ideas?

Tried updating drivers... says it's the current available.

Hello - I had the same issue with Nvidia NVS 290 and I updated driver to 304.43 version fixed it.

I tried running the update to 304.43 and it seemed to go in okay but then X wouldn't start. Reboot didn't help. I found in the logs that the module didn't upgrade to the same numbers so X wasn't able to find any displays.

Got it! Found the answer online in an old blog post but it still holds up as a valid fix for this (or updating nvidia correctly in general. Downloading the driver and following nvidia's instructions on their own site, did not do it correctly.

    Code:
    sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
    reboot
