    Ubuntu missing from boot menu

Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Samsung Series 9. After leaving my laptop on overnight, the battery died. After charging a bit and booting up, the ubuntu option was missing. I ran bootinfoscript and pasted the output below. I'm not sure where to go from here?

    Code:

Re: Ubuntu missing from boot menu

Boot script is not saying anything is wrong.

You have gpt partitioning with UEFI boot. Did UEFI revert to BIOS mode or something. What does UEFI say?

You may need to run e2fsck on partition sda2. If system has files loaded when there is an abnormal shutdown system often needs a file check.

#From liveCD so everything is unmounted, swap off if necessary, change example shown with partition sdb1 to your partition(s)
#e2fsck is used to check the ext2/ext3/ext4 family of file systems. -p trys fixes where response not required
    sudo e2fsck -C0 -p -f -v /dev/sda2
#if errors: -y auto answers yes for fixes needing response see man e2fsck
    sudo e2fsck -f -y -v /dev/sda2

Re: Ubuntu missing from boot menu

    After running

    Code:
    sudo e2fsck -C0 -p -f -v /dev/sda2
    I got

    Code:
      878079 inodes used (11.63%)
         361 non-contiguous files (0.0%)
         340 non-contiguous directories (0.0%)
             # of inodes with ind/dind/tind blocks: 0/0/0
             Extent depth histogram: 833785/223
    24223794 blocks used (80.19%)
           0 bad blocks
           7 large files

      786446 regular files
       33089 directories
          57 character device files
          25 block device files
           0 fifos
          20 links
58442 symbolic links (43970 fast symbolic links)
          11 sockets
    --------
      878090 files
Looks like there were no errors. I'm not sure how to check UEFI. Is it something I can do from the terminal? I'll try booting up and see what displays.

Re: Ubuntu missing from boot menu

I just checked the BIOS settings and found UEFI support disabled. I re-enabled it and found the ubuntu item listed. Everything worked just fine. Thank you so much!

Re: Ubuntu missing from boot menu

Glad it was something simple and good to know that even BIOS/UEFI can get lost on a power failure.
