Why do I have to keep installing Thunderbird Calendar?

11.10 - about once a month a new version of Thunderbird comes out and so for a period of time Calendar does not work. Then when an update to Calendar comes out I have to manually install it.

Why can't all this happen automatically?

If it's not broken, don't fix it.
Windows assumes the user is an idiot.
    Linux demands proof.

I am not having the problem so am wondering if you have the calendar extension, which is called Lightning, checked off in Synaptic or in the Software center.

My updates to Thunderbird and Lightning are all automatic and I never have the problem of having to manually update lightning.

xul-ext-lightning is the package in 12.04, this updates automatically with every thunderbird.
Not sure if this package is in 11.10 though.
If you had to download it manually from the web, then you will need to update it manually with every thunderbird update.
