lxde cannot install some programs

ubuntu 12 lts lxde

some programs fx google earth deb installer, I cannot install in lxde
logging into unity instead, installing then runs and program can
then also be used in lxde

q: is this a common error?

Hmm.. Haven't heard of that before..

Have you tried running this from a terminal?

sudo ./PACKAGE.DEB

Obviously you will have to direct your terminal to the folder where your .deb is located

suck as:
open terminal
type: cd Downloads

your are now in the downloads folder.

type: sudo ./PACKAGE.deb

you might also try to right click on the package --> proberties --> permission and make sure that the file is executable
