Ubuntu 12.04 vs My Laptop Battery
I'm a newby with Ubuntu so I'm learning as I go, although I am a little computer literate. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 about a six weeks ago and everything was going great, and then suddenly my Dell Inspiron stopped recognizing there was a battery connected. If I unplug my laptop from the power source, it shuts down as though there is no power.
I've read other users here who have had the same problem and the general consensus is "your battery is dead". This made no sense to me as the battery is only 6 months old, so I tested it on my wife's Dell which is running Windows and it worked just fine. When I put it back in my Ubuntu-powered Dell, however, the problem persisted.
Anybody know what's causing this and/or how to fix it?
Re: Ubuntu 12.04 vs My Laptop Battery
If you switch off the computer and then unplug it, will it switch on after that. If not, it's probably something wrong with the battery socket or power management of your computer. If it boots, see if it'll stay on for long...

Reason: plug > battery socket
