No Sound: Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 24 bit

I recently installed ubuntu again since 8.x, and I have a soundcard that works in windows, but not here in 12.04 (im actually in 12.10 but i was able to reproduce it in a VM).

The reason I have this card is for optical out. I have a pair of headphones that has a receiver that plugs directly into the optical out of the card. But currently I am unable to get any sound from the card and cannot find anything online that says what I can do to get it to work.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

The best I can say is to go into BIOS and turn off your onboard sound card, that way it will automatically go to the sound card.

However, trying to play sound from more than one program at the same time is problematic, and I'm currently looking for the solution to this problem. I'm currently using Kubuntu 12.04 on a Dell Optiplex 755, The sound card is a Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1/24 bit.
