lenovo v570 wifi problems (Linux Mint 13)

i am currently working on fixing the wifi on my friends lenovo V570 laptop and am having great difficulty. i have tried many of the solutions and none have worked!
whats happening:
wifi light not on
no connection
the wifi on/off button on the computer and on the control panel is non responsive


also the computer is running a fresh install of Linux Mint 13
and i do not believe it is a problem with acer_wmi because i blacklisted it and i dont think it is on this computer, but i wouldn't rule that out completely just because i'm not absolutely sure that its not on here.

I know mint has its own forum ( i'm not trying to spam, but i posted there too) , i just really enjoy the ubuntu community. they have always been helpful and had the answers i was looking for
