mouse wheel out of control..

i have microsoft wireless mouse which used to function nicely in ubuntu, but now the mouse wheel is way to touchy. it still works normally in windows, so it's not a problem with the mouse itself, but there are no settings to adjust scroll speed that i can find in ubuntu.
all help appreciated..

it would occasionally work and sometimes not, now i know why!

still a bit of a pain though.. but better than scrolling through half the page in one click!
