i googled and came up with some promising info.. it tells me "You need to be running a 24bpp desktop. If you use the glxinfo commands, you will see 24bpp modes in the visuals list:" i checked and mines is 16bpp ....so my question is...how can i switch it to 24bpp??
OK update...i edited my xorg.conf to 24 default...restarted my x..and now doom 3 works...BUTTTT only if..its not full screen...it uses a quarter of my screen on the side..so i see the doom 3 screen on the left bottom side only how can i fix the parameters

SOlved my problem by adding dif parameters to xorg.conf...then ran across a sound issue..solved by adding "+set s_driver oss" switch ..now its 100 % good to go

    Re: doom 3 problem

I got rid of the quarter-size screen in Prey just by changing the resolution to my native screen resolution. In Half-Life 2, however, under wine, it doesn't let me change the resolution. What do you mean diff parameters in xorg.conf? Can you post your changes to your xorg.conf?
