All have worked well for me, but 12.04 has the longest support ,so you won't have to re-install or upgrade until 2017. The next long term support release is 14.04 which will have 5 year support also. I like to see the changes as they come , so I install the latest releases , but I don't use Ubuntu for work and have time to play around .

I think it is not a correct question - which is better. It is one distribution. In fact, you have to dismiss 12.10 instantly, because it is a short-term release and will not be supported for a long time. Your actual choice lies between 13.04 and 12.04. If you like to upgrade and see new features, choose 13.04, it is a short-term release as well, but it was released a little more than a month ago. If you want more stability and don't mind to get a little older packages, you can stick to 12.04, that will be supported for a longer time. The choice is yours, but both releases are good.

P.s. I do use ubuntu for work, and what distro do you use?

Better? Wrong word. Better for who? We know nothing about you. How can we advise which Ubuntu version is best for you.

Ubuntu 12.04.2 is a Long Term Support (LTS release). It has about 4 years of support left to run. Ubuntu 12.10 will reach End of Life about May 2014. Ubuntu 13.04 will reach End Of Life about January 2013.

So, it comes down to this. Do you want to upgrade or not? Do you want to upgrade once or twice. If you do not want to upgrade, install 12.04.2. If you only want to upgrade once then install 12.10 and upgrade to 14.04 when it is released. If you do not mind upgrading twice then install 13.04 and upgrade to 13.10 and the 14.04.

What you should do is download the ISO image for each version and run a live session of each and make your own mind up about which version you like.

Thank you for all your recommandations. I don't like to upgrade every time and to re-intall every year or less than year, so I will download the 12.04 lts and I'll use it because it's stable and their support goes until 2017. I plan to use it in work too.
