I looked at those Picasa installation instructions and got scared off. Rube Goldberg would be proud.

I just install the Windows version in .wine after installing wine & winetricks from the repository.

Sorry to barge in, installing Picasa for my gf was on in my .plan for some time.
Most recent HOWTO's advise on installing IE6 to be able to log in.
So, of course:

$ winetricks ie6
Executing w_do_call ie6
Executing load_ie6

This package does not work on a 64-bit installation

Running Linux means punishment, running 64bit Linux means double punishment...
