    application launcher for fluxbox slit

im looking for a quick app launcher for fluxbox

(i dont really care if it uses the slit or not)

    so far i have found

wmdrawer (its in the repos, but i dont really like the drawer idea)
    http://dockapps.org/list.php/cat_id/5/pagerRow/3

bbdock (looks perfect but i cant figure out how to compile it)
    http://bbdock.nethence.com/

wmbutton (its in the repos and it would be satisfactory but its such a pain to configure and i cant even figure out how to change the icons)

also i dont really care much for the way any of those dockapps look

i just want a quick way to launch my favorite apps, so i dont have to navigate through the menu every time

(something like e17's ibar would be perfect)

    any suggestions?

    have you ever tried jwm?
all that stuff your adding to fluxbox to make it usable, i can do in jwm with out adding a single thing, no extra programs to setup, no resource parasites, etc...

i just added icons to mine cause the kids are coming back and there just to lazy to right click or use the menu button. jeezz

    thanks kerry

i might just have to go with desktop icons, but i was really hoping something more along the lines of a dock

yea i have used jwm before (with damnsmalllinux)

it is a great window manager but its not really what im looking for at the moment

this is my desktop so far..

i think it would look good with a small autohide launcher/dock at the top like this other screenshot

My personal favourite launcher is fbpanel. Transparency, autohide facility, specified images or themed icons, definable width and height, everything I want. It can also do a menu, clock, systray, task list, pager, and several instances can be run, so it can cover all panel needs with a window manager.

Do you think to use wbar or simdock ?

Also you can use the keyboard for launch applications.

Re: application launcher for fluxbox slit

Though this forum is old I just wanted to add my favorite solution. I have gkrellm running in the slit which gives me my stats like cpu usage. I then download and compile the trayicons plugin which puts a little panel (you choose it's width) on the bottom of gkrellm where you can place icons with commands attached to them.

Trayicons is actually very usful because it also can act like a notifier. You can have the icons change when some command returns true (like a mail check program).
