Your license will be good for all platforms.

    (I'm just guessing here though).

    Cool. Thanks.

It would also be nice if they provide an option to run Windows games through Wine. But I doubt they will do that.

DOOM® 3 BFG Edition will be on Steam so I hope they will also add the GPL Linux version.

Otherways I'd need to buy the discs and install like 8 years ago?

Not a big shock. They made it pretty clear they were running and internal beta first, and then sometime this month moving it to a closed outside beta. Seems pretty clear the outside beta would be dependent on the results of the initial internal beta, and even then, it could have already started for all we know, and we just haven't heard from anybody who was invited to participate yet.

Oh yes! One step closer to never having to run Windows again!

(This is new news for me )

It's probably not Linux compatible, so save your money.

However, with Valve being pretty pissed off at Micro$oft because of their Micro$oft Store, it's likely that EA & others will follow, which would in turn mean more games available for Linux than just Valve games.
Either way, things are looking good!

Also, with the Surface Tablet Micro$oft is turning the OEMs against them.
Window$ 8 could very well be the opportunity that Linux has been waiting for.

Windows 8 IS the opportunity that Linux has been waiting for. In fact, Valve seems to be interested in expanding into the HTPC market with the help of Linux.

It was bound to happen sooner or later.......

All I know is that I know nothing....

@R33D3M33R. No gpl should be compatible, the question is only when and how we could use it. I probably buy the PC version and wait for the GPL part.

Isn't Windows 7 to KDE like Windows 8 is to Unity? That is the way it's been explained to me at least. With people hating on Windows 8, why are people thinking that Windows users will switch to Linux when the most popular distribution runs Unity and it is the one Valve is choosing to focus on?

same here! If I could get CK2 and EU4 on ubuntu I would be ecstatic! Would never need any other games, except perhaps Civ 4 for something lighter now and then

Because changing desktops to something else in Ubuntu is just an apt-get, logout, and login away!
