thumbdrive or jumpdrive or flashdrive contents vanished

Some weeks ago, I got help mounting a usb memory device at this forum. It has (or had) passwords on it. It had files that had to be executed to read the passwords. Once the guy helping me and I finished, all was well until today. As the device was no longer mounted as a removable piece of storage, it didn't seem to need "ejecting" or unmounting.

I had some sort of failure of the executable and pulled the device out of it's usb port. I put it back in. Now the entire contents of the drive does not appear in the Thunar.

So, yes, I'm panicked, but I'm also patient.

Anybody know what I can do to retrieve the files or otherwise re-mount the device?

While the drive did not appear under: lsusb
upon using sudo umount the drive re-appeared in both ls as well as in Thunar (as GUI), so all is well.
