Thanks russell, I just reinstalled the mplayer stuff, and installed the fonts and docs to be sure, and it works!

Yay! for the first time I have a fully functional ubuntu pc! (except for a couple minor java issues)

Re: Howto Install 32 bit Firefox with Flash w/sound and Java for AMD64

been running these scripts for ages, but recently, I have a need to use 64bit Mplayer and mencoder for video editing, so cannot install the 32 bit version of mplayer anymore for browser use (realplayer/quicktime plugins in firefox).

I have flash9 and java1.6 working in 32bit firefox but want Mplayer plugins to work in 64bit browser. Is this possible??

I ran the script for firefox32+flash on ubuntu edgy, and i got some errors during the running of the script, i couldnt really see them because it was fast. anyway its finished but i dont see any menu entry, only the regular 64 bit firefox.
and if it means something- i didnt get any flash and java license during the installation.... maybe something went wrong but how can i find out what it is?

    hi killz,
i installed your howto with the script and it worked fine. i have since installed beryl and my nvidia graphics drivers and somehow my flash doesnt work any more on the 32 bit firefox. i havent tried fixing it yet since im not sure which direction to go. im still a n00b with linux but im learning quickly. can i install your script again or will that just corrupt my files? are there some reports i should include in my next post that will help you diagnose my problem? if so what are the commands?

thanks for taking time to help me out

Re: Howto Install 32 bit Firefox with Flash w/sound and Java for AMD64

I have arrived at my first Ubuntu (6.10, 64 bit) problem that has stumped me. Both with the script and the manual method for installing firefox32 on my amd64 system, the following happens:

    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs lib32asound2 lib32ncurses5 ia32-libs-sdl ia32-libs-gtk gsfonts gsfonts-x11 linux32
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    E: Couldn't find package ia32-libs

I am not sure why this happens. I believe I have the appropriate repositories enabled via Synaptic (the following are checked off in Synaptic-->Settings-->Repositories-->Ubuntu 6.10 tab: "Community maintained...," "Canonical supported...," Software restricted...," and "Proprietary drivers...").

    sources.list is as follows:

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy main restricted universe multiverse

I also tried to install each ia32... package individually, and the same result is met--"Couldn't find package [ia32...]."

Thanks for any help that can be offered.

Those packages exist in Edgy. Perhaps your download source was offline. I looked at the repo's in you sources file and it looks like the files are there.

Re: Howto Install 32 bit Firefox with Flash w/sound and Java for AMD64

Using the same sources.list that I posted above, I still get the same:

    sudo apt-get install ia32-libs lib32asound2 lib32ncurses5 ia32-libs-sdl ia32-libs-gtk gsfonts gsfonts-x11 linux32
    Reading package lists... Done
    Building dependency tree
    Reading state information... Done
    E: Couldn't find package ia32-libs

I have no idea why this is, but it's preventing me from moving forward in this fix and others. They do not appear via Synaptic either. Is it feasible to manually download and install these packages? Possibly by adding a local path to sources.list where the packages reside on my machine, and then continuing with the "apt-get install" call?

    Thanks

Re: Howto Install 32 bit Firefox with Flash w/sound and Java for AMD64

    Problem resolved.

I found that I certainly am NOT running 64-bit Edgy (must have mislabeled one of the CDs I burned), hence not finding the 32-bit libraries that I was asking the OS to look for.

    Thanks for the help.
