SDL game audio out of sync

Hey, having a problem here. Whenever I try to play an SDL-based game, I'm noticing that audio is out of sync. There's a delay of about a second or so between an event and the sound that's supposed to play. This happens with either the alsa or esd version of the libsdl1.2debian package installed, and libsdl1.2debian-oss doesn't produce any sound. Does anyone know what's up with this problem?

What's wrong with closed and open source co-exisiting?

Come on people. This was the only thread that wasn't replied to in a whole page. Will nobody help me? I really don't want to reinstall Hardy.
