Re: Broadcom 4306 With Ndiswrapper 54 Mbps

Ok, so i'm having some troubles with this howto. My wireless interface doesn't seem to poweron...

    lspci says

    Code:
06:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4306 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 03)
    ndiswrapper -l says

    Code:
    bcmwl5 driver installed, hardware present
    /etc/network/interfaces says

    Code:
    auto lo
    iface lo inet loopback

    auto eth0
    iface eth0 inet dhcp

    auto wlan0
    iface wlan0 inet dhcp
    /etc/modprobe.d/ndiswrapper says
    Code:
    alias wlan0 ndiswrapper
I've tried diffrent firmwares, from makers webpage etc. but it does no diffrence... The device won't power up!

Appreciate all help I can get.

zeddock: what does ndiswapper -l say?
I ended up using the guide here.

But I would like to know what brought the wlan0 back into my listing of interfaces, etc.
    Here is ndiswrapper -l now:
    bcmwl5 : driver installed
device (14E4:4324) present (alternate driver: bcm43xx)
    jim@lat-lap:~$

Yesterday it did not show the device present!

hmm, followed the same guide as the poster before me and all is good now.

ndiswrapper -l shows the same as the previous speaker... And I would also like to know why the interface didn't show up before :/

Yeah, but there's another how-to that to me seems to work better, and it's confirmed by me to work with Dapper, Edgy, and Feisty:

    1. Make a directory called "WLAN" in your home directory, and download the drivers. You will need both bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5a.inf for the wifi to properly work.
    2. Install ndiswrapper.
    2. sudo rmmod bcm43xx
    3. sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist (add - minus the quotes - "blacklist bcm43xx" to end of file, then save)
    4. cd WLAN
    5. sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf
    6. sudo ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5a.inf
    7. ndiswrapper -l (The words "DRIVER PRESENT, HARDWARE PRESENT" should appear beside both bcmwl5 and bcmwl5a.
    8. sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
    9. sudo ndiswrapper -m

Then set up your connection manager.

darthchaosofrspw: that's pretty much exactly like my howto. my howto is even more detailed tha nthat. you can't install 2 drivers so that whole installing 2 drivers thing doesn't make since.
woaizhongguo06: can you post the error message again.

Re: Broadcom 4306 With Ndiswrapper 54 Mbps

Hello all. I'm another Linux/Ubuntu newbie. I'm trying to get my wireless up and running on my Gateway 200 laptop. I used the ndiswrapper method that I found here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=197102

Seemed to work because I can now see my Router when I click on Network manager in the upper right corner. However, every time I try to connect to it, it fails. I'm using WPA2. If I mouseover it, it says "Waiting for Network Key for the wireless network xxxxxxxx" and then simply fails. (obviously, i did fill in the correct network key - I checked it on another Windows laptop)

I see that some others are having similar problems: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=414783

but the solution posted at the end didn't work for me (because I did install using the ndiswrapper method).

Any suggestions of help? Please include the code because I'm totally new to Linux and don't know my sudo from my tar

    Thanks a million!
    Mike

Does anybody know how I can change the title of the thread so that I can put HOWTO in front of it?

Re: Broadcom 4306 With Ndiswrapper 54 Mbps

    hi!
I'm on a clean feisty install (my third in two hours of trying to get my wireless working)

I followed the guide step by step and couldn't find any errors or anything until I open system/admin/network and do not find a my wireless there. I ve of course tried rebootooting and some editing, Totoros fix.. but nothing helped.
in /etc/network/interfaces there is no sign of the wireless card..
tomorrow I'll follow the guide again on a fresh install again and paste every in- and output and all relevant config files.

please help me I'm close to selling that damn laptop (bought a used thinkpad x31 and thought there shouldnt be any driver related problems, but the shop I bought it from replaced the original wlan card)

    thanks in advance!
